Who are we
OpenStax is part of Rice University, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable corporation. As an educational initiative, it's our mission to transform learning so that education works for every student. Through our partnerships with philanthropic foundations and our alliance with other educational resource companies, we're breaking down the most common barriers to learning. Because we believe that everyone should and can have access to knowledge.

What we do
We publish high-quality, peer-reviewed, openly licensed college textbooks that are absolutely free online and low cost in print. Seriously. We've also developed a low-cost, research-based courseware that gives students the tools they need to complete their course the first time around, and a new online math homework system with step-level feedback. Check out our current library of textbooks and explore OpenStax Tutor Beta.
Where we're going
Our textbooks are being used in 60% of college and universities in the U.S. and over 100 countries, but there’s still room to grow. Alongside our efforts to expand our library, we have been taking steps toward improving student learning and advancing research in learning science. Access is just the beginning – we want to make educational tools better for a new generation of learners. Explore our map to see where we're headed.
